Other Programs

Greg and Linda Wilson officially came on board as GFA Missionaries at the start of 2015, although they have been utilising GFA materials for many years.  They are working with the Aboriginal people in the West Kimberley in WA, with their main focus of ministry in the town of Derby & the nearby community of Mowanjum.

The Wilsons’ mission involves reaching out through friendship building, visitation, community involvement (such as playgroup attendance, working at a computer resource centre helping people learn basic computer skills & leading/teaching Bible studies). They feel that God directed them to build a home in a central place where people feel they can drop in and be welcome to come for conversation, resources, prayer and encouragement.

There are a lot of spiritual needs and social problems in this area, including drug and alcohol abuse, child neglect, domestic violence and suicide. There are also a lot of positives, such as open hearts, strong family ties and a vast network of local shared knowledge. The Wilsons feel they can make a difference through consistently being a light and being available for long term relationships.

This is not just ‘their’ ministry, they feel like it is an extension of the heart of other Christians reaching out to the people of this area through their prayers and support. When the Wilsons tell their friends in the Kimberley that there are people praying for them, it is a great encouragement to them.

Parenting Programs have been developed and adapted taking biblical parenting principles from the original Growing Families parenting material for indigenous cultures and are currently being used throughout the Kimberley to train, support, minister to and encourage Indigenous families in the context of relationships.

Families Gods Way

Families Gods Way is a moral based, biblical parenting program currently comprising 3 blocks of six or seven sessions. Topics include teaching on identity in Christ, Right Beginnings (the husband/wife relationship), lessons for fathers, how to truly love our children (teaching on love languages & the different types of love), building healthy relationships, how to raise a moral child, developing character, love, respect & honesty, principles of obedience, intro to discipline and repentance, forgiveness, restoration & restitution.

Our Family-Our Future

This shorter (six session) program was developed for use in a secular setting. It covers the same moral teaching as the first 6 sessions of ‘Families God’s Way’, without the Bible verses, but is based on the same biblical principles.
